Area Wineries to Sample Wines in Progress and New Releases CLARK COUNTY, WA -

The wineries of Southwest Washington invite wine enthusiasts to skip the Black Friday madness and tour Washington’s newest wine region over Thanksgiving Day Weekend. With the harvest season coming to a close, the wineries will celebrate the constant evolution of wine by offering visitors a sneak peak into the wine-making process. Wine at various stages can be sampled at each winery. Offerings vary by location.

The Southwest Washington wine region is home to nearly two-dozen family-owned, artisan wineries and vineyards within an hour of Portland, Oregon. All produce fewer than 1000 cases per year, which means winemakers are frequently pouring their own wines. Many of the tasting rooms are located onsite with mature and developing vineyards.

Nestled between the North bank of the Columbia River and the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, the climate and soil of Southwest Washington are similar to Burgundy in France. The region excels at growing traditional European grapes such as Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, as well as lesser-known varietals like Golubok, Marechal-Foch and ZweigeltRebe. Supplemented with grapes sourced from warmer climates nearby (predominantly Eastern Washington), area wineries are able to produce wines for nearly every palate.

The Southwest Washington Winery Association is organized to promote and encourage the development and growth of the grape wine industry in Southwest Washington. Member wineries host four region-wide events throughout the year. More information about the Association and member wineries is at
