Burnt Bridge Cellars is named after a creek that runs through the heart of the town we call home. Located in the thriving Uptown Village district of Vancouver, the winery began as an idea in a garage more than six years ago. Today, the garage is a little bigger, but the detailed, hands-on approach remains. Every wine from Burnt Bridge Cellars is made from hand-picked grapes. Every barrel is crafted from hand-selected oak. Every bottle is hand-filled, hand-corked and hand-labeled. Yes, we know there are easier and faster ways to make wine. But when you love wine as much as we do, we feel it deserves the extra attention.  We hope you agree.

The Team

Owners Mark Mahan and Greg Wallace

Mark and Greg worked together for years at HP, including two years living in Barcelona, Spain in the early nineties where they both developed their love for great wine. Mark, an engineer, grew up in Davis, California and went to college at UC Davis--the technical center of the California wine industry and a stone's throw from Napa Valley. Greg grew up in Montana and attended West Point before traveling the world as an HP executive. Through the years their passion for wine grew and both dreamt of being part of a successful winery some day. Mark jumped in first, making a few cases of "David Mark" wines with friend David Smith in 2008. As the business grew, the name changed to Burnt Bridge Cellars.

"The industry here feels very much like what was going on in California 30 years ago, and it's been a fabulous opportunity to work with many of the best growers in Washington who have enabled us to make world- class wines in a remarkably short time," Mark said.

In 2015, Greg had the opportunity to reunite with his old friend, ā€œI jumped at the chance," he said. "I've always believed in the quality of the wines they make. I am excited and confident in where we can take Burnt Bridge Cellars in the coming years.ā€

Winemaker Ben Stuart

Ben joined the team in 2015 after graduating with a degree from the Enology and Viticulture program at Walla Walla Community College. During that time he worked at a couple of top Walla Walla wineries. Before catching the winemaking bug, Ben grew up in Portland and worked as a journalist in Alaska and in PR and Marketing in Oregon. When he's not cleaning barrels or mixing up the next award-winning Bordeaux blend, Ben likes to spend time with his wife Allison and young son Hudson. "Not only do I get the opportunity to make some of the best wine in the state, but I get to do it here in Vancouver. This is truly a homecoming for me and my family. Cheers!"

Winemaking Philosophy
Buy the best grapes we can find and let them shine.
We are very fortunate to be working with the top vineyards in Washington state and believe it is our job to let the grapes steal the show. We work diligently in creating an environment that requires minimal intervention. We strive for balance straight from the vineyard and let the wines take the lead. Instead of trying to make the same wine year after year, we embrace the differences in each vintage. We believe Burnt Bridge Cellar wines pair perfectly with food and friends. Enjoy!
